Hello everybody,
here we are with a new Workshop!
This time I would like to talk about Data and Memory structure of the G-70.
In the G-70 we have two different Memories, the Internal Memory and the External Memory.
Both are accessible from your Computer via USB. (Press Menu, USB Storage)

On the Internal Memory you will find all the Factory Data (Music Assistant, User Programs, Styles, Songs, etc).
One way of finding this Data in your instrument is using the Finder button on the right side of the G-70’s panel. For example if you would press the Style button there, you will see the following screen:



If you want to create and save your own Data you can save to the Internal Memory and/or to the External Memory.
One way of reaching the Save environment is pressing the Disk button on the left side of the display.



Now press Save and Style:

As a memory destination you can now select between:

a) Internal Memory



b) External Memory



or

c) Floppy Disk (Floppy Disk is not available for User Programs and Midi Sets).

Now let’s imagine, you have worked with the Internal Memory up to now and you just purchased a PCMCIA Adapter and a Memory Card, such as Compact Flash, SD Card, Micro Drive etc. and you want to correctly transfer your User Program Data and your Styles and Songs to the External Memory.

In the following chapters I would like to describe one way to do this:
I) User Programs
Let’s presume that you have created a couple of User Programs and saved them into the User Program list.

Also you have already saved this User Program list into the Internal Memory.

*Off course any Name for the User Program set would be ok!

So far everything will be in the internal memory of the G-70. Now you want to save the User Program list and all the single User Programs into the External Memory.
First we have to understand, that there are the following two types of Data in the User Program Environment.

1. Files with the extension “. UPG” are single User Programs that the G-70 saves every time you save a User Program. 

2. Files with the extension “. UPS” are User Program Lists. Apart from the contents of your User Program List there are also all general Data like Mastering Tools Setting, Global Setting (such as Touch Screen Beep, etc) stored in these files.

Before you can use your new External Data Card, you will have to format the Card inside the G-70. (Cards that are formatted in the PC won’t have the right folders for making the Database work correctly)
So, please insert the Data Card (after you have inserted the Card into the correct PCMCIA adapter) into the PCM Slot on the backside of the G-70.
Then press Disk on the panel of the instrument.

Then touch the Format button on the screen.

Please acknowledge that formatting a Data Card can NOT be undone! So you absolutely have to be sure, that there is no Data need on that Card that you still.

After formatting the Data Card you can save the User Program list to the External Memory.

Now you have saved the User Program list to the External Memory, and all the Single User Programs (.UPG) will be automatically copied into the External Memory.
If you press the Set list button you will now read “From External Memory” in the upper right corner of the display.

II) Styles
After you have successfully transferred all your User Programs to the External Memory we will have a look at how to do the same thing with the Styles.
For copying the Style Data from the Internal to the External Memory we will use the On Board Copy function of the G-70.
Please press Style Finder on the panel of the G-70 and select any Style.

Touch the Options button and the Copy button on the screen and select from Internal to External Memory.

If you want to copy all Styles from Internal to External please touch the All Files button.

If you prefer to individually select the Styles that you wish to copy you can do so by just touching the Styles that you want to copy (Deselect All Files first).

After you have selected all the Styles that you want to copy on all pages you can touch the Execute button on the screen.

Now you will find the copied Styles in the External Memory (Style Finder, External Memory).

In the next tep we will link the Styles from the External Memory to the User Programs. As the G-70 has an open Data structure up to now the Styles will still be loaded from Internal Memory, even if the User Programs will be loaded from the External Memory. The Link for the Style is inside the Single User Program Data and therefore has to be changed individually.

Please select “Magnificent West1” in the Set list.

Press exit

You can see in the display that the “Western Movie” Style has been loaded from the Internal Memory. Press the Style Finder Button on the Panel of the G-70.

Touch the Finder button on the screen and type West (the first 2 – 4 letters usually do the job)

Touch Find on the screen and select the Style.

Press Exit.

Now you can see that the “Western Movie” Style has been loaded from the External Memory.
If you decide to keep it that way you should save the User Program into the Set list.

Press Set List.

Touch Write and the Place in the list (I recommend to simply overwrite the same Place) touch Execute on the screen, and touch Yes for overwriting the User Program.

Now you have successfully linked the Style from the External Memory to the User Program.
You may repeat this procedure for all the User Programs where you would like to make that change.
When you have finished you will have to save the User Program Set list again to the External Memory.

III) Songs
For doing the same job that you have just completed with the Styles you can follow the same procedure with the Songs using Song Finder Copy function.
After you have copied the Songs from the Internal Memory to the External Memory you might have to create the appropriate links between the User Programs and the Songs.
To do this you again select the User Program that you want to change. (In this workshop I would like to use the “Magnificent West” User Program and the Song “Amazing Grace” as an example).

Now touch the Song Link button on the screen.

Touch the Make New Song Link field and touch the Song that you would like to link to the User Program. (Here we simply use “Amazing Grace”).

Press the "Get It" button in the lower left corner of the Screen and you will see that the Song has been linked to the User Program.

When you are done with that job for all the User Programs that you would like to modify in that way you should save the User Program Set again to the External Memory.

Congratulations! You have transferred all your Data successfully from the Internal to the External Memory.
Now, for example, you could go to any other G.70, load your Data and start playing your Music!
