Ralf Schink's Tips & Tricks vol. 12
In this workshop I would like to put the focus on working with Midi Files. Apart from simply playing back the Midi Files you can do quite a few other very interesting things such as using the Mark & Jump function for reaching up to 4 pre-defined cue-points in the Song. This function allows you to jump directly to any Bar in the Song. You can repeat a Chorus, jump back to the first Verse or jump directly to the Ending of the Song. For using this function we first need to select the 4 Marks in the Song. This needs to be done manually, because with today’s technology our instruments are not yet able to recognize Verse, Chorus and Ending of a Song automatically.

So let’s start by loading a Midifile. (Off course you can use any Midifile in the market. For copyright reasons I will use a Midifile for the Song “Amazing Grace”.)
Press the “Song” Button in the Finder Section on the Panel of the Keyboard.
Load the Midifile by simply touching the name of the Song.

Press “Play/Stop” in the Recorder Section on the Panel of the Keyboard to briefly listen to the Song. Press “Play/Stop” again to make the Playback stop.
Now we are sure that a Standard Midifile Song has been loaded into the internal 16-Track Sequencer of our Keyboard.
Press one of the 4 “Mark & Jump” Buttons in the Mark & Jump Section of the Panel on the Keyboard. You will reach the page with 4 Entry Slots for the Bar Numbers of the Mark & Jump Function.

There are several ways to enter the 4 Marks into the Song.
Touching the Slot you would like to edit on the Touch Screen and using the Data Entry Wheel is one of the possibilities.

Another possibility is touching one of the 4 Slots, pushing the Data Entry Wheel and typing the Bar Numbers by using the Number Pad that is popping up on the Screen.

Once you have inserted a Number the physical Mark & Jump Button will acknowledge by showing a green light.
The 3rd way of entering the appropriate Bar Numbers is very easy as well. Just start the Playback of the Song, touch one of the 4 Slots and use the “Write Mark” Switch on the Touch Screen to set the Marks in realtime.

After having inserted the 4 Marks into the Song you can press “Play/Stop” in the Recorder Section on the Panel of the Keyboard and use the 4 “Mark & Jump” switches to confirm that you have selected the right Bar numbers.
Now that you have confirmed the right Bar numbers it is time to save the Song. Just press the “Save” Button on the Touch Screen.

Press “Execute” on the Touch Screen.

Please press “Yes” on the Touch Screen for replacing the existing Song Data with your modified Data that contains the Mark & Jump information. You can follow this routine for every Song that you would like to use with the Mark & Jump Function.
Thank you very much for making this workshop together with me.
Yours Sincerely Ralf Schink, November 2007
