Ralf Schink's Tips & Tricks vol. 8 Hello there, in this workshop I would like to focus on another new feature in the E-80, the Lyrics/BMP Viewer.
After saving the lyrics into simple .txt files please transfer them into the internal or the external memory (Data Card) of the E-80 and link them to each User Program independently. Naturally you can display the lyrics on the internal screen, but also via video out on an external screen such as a plasma screen or a video beamer. For finding the lyrics in the Internet you could go to Google and type lyrics name of the song. (I am using the song Amazing Grace as an example because it is a copyright free traditional). Usually you will find many entries with the desired result. Just copy and paste the lyrics into an empty Word document and save it as .txt File. Then copy the .txt file into the text folder of the E-80 internal or external memory: Press Menu on the right side next to the display.

Press USB Data Storage on the touchscreen.

Press internal or external memory on the touchscreen.

Drag and drop the .txt file into the text folder.
*The order of folders is not necessarily the same on your computer! *On Mac you have to Drag the “E80_SSD” icon to the Trash (or use the equivalent shortcut). Wait until the icon has disappeared from your desktop. Press Disconnect on the touchscreen

Press Exit. Before linking the text file to the user program let’s assign Amazing Grace to the user program list by pressing the User PRG switch in the finder section on the right side next to the data wheel.
Then please press the Finder button on the touchscreen and type the first 3 or 4 letters of the user program you wish to find.
Press Find on the touchscreen and select Amazing Grace by simply touching it with your finger. (The letters MA indicate that you can find this User Program also in the Music Assistant database).
Now please save the User Program into the list by pressing List in the User Program field on the panel of the E-80.
Press Write on the touchscreen.
Press Execute on the touchscreen.
After that you can link the lyrics to any User Program by pressing the Text/BMP Link button on the touchscreen.
(the Make New Text/BMP Link button on the touchscreen)
(the Get It button on the touchscreen)
For having a look at the lyrics please press the Lyrics & Score switch on the left side next to the display. Press Viewer on the touchscreen.
For displaying the lyrics on an external monitor please press Options and adjust Video Out standard to your needs and Video Out source to Viewer.
For adjusting the appearance to the needs of the room or just to your personal taste you can change the colours of the letters and the background. You can use the automatic Page Turner function for changing the pages.
You can also scroll the pages of the lyrics by using the arrows below the data wheel on the panel of the E-80 but you can also use a Foot switch.
or the dedicated FC-7 Foot Controller.

We have now successfully studied the lyrics features in the E-80.
Now let’s move on to another exciting new feature, the BMP presenter (BMP stands for Bitmap or Device-Independent Bitmap). Actually we are simply talking about pictures and BMP is the data format (like jpg or pic etc). If we want to use pictures for the Viewer of the E-80 we need to convert them into .bmp format. The size must be 320x240 Pixels and 16,7 million colors, RGB 32Bit. You can achieve this format parameters by using programs like iPhoto on Mac or Irfanview on PC. Like this the E-80 can easily process them and show them on the internal or/and the external screen. Here you can download an example: After downloading, please have a look at the picture in your computer. Now please copy the picture into the Text folder of the internal or external memory of your E-80. (Please refer to the beginning of this workshop for instructions). As a next step press the Lyrics switch on the left side next to the display.

Then press Options on the touchscreen.
Press BMP import on the touchscreen. And select E-80 example.
Press Execute and then YES on the touchscreen.
This should be the result.
For getting a full view of the picture on the internal screen simply touch the screen itself anywhere. Off course the pictures will be displayed independently on the Video Out. You could now link this picture to a User Program by following the same steps as we did for linking .txt files with lyrics to the User Programs. Just press BMP Import instead of TXT Import.
Actually it is very easy to find any type of pictures in the Internet. Just use Google and check for pictures or images. Thank you very much for completing this workshop together with me. Yours sincerely Ralf Schink, August 2006
