Guitar Groove of the Month - September 2006 Hello everybody, This month I would like to study with you a very famous Guitar Phrase from a song by Pink Floyd. Are you ready? So let's start! The Guitar Mode is installed into the G-70 Version 2 and into the new E-Series (E-50, E-60 and E-80). So let’s switch on the Guitar Mode by simultaneously pressing the Piano and the Arranger button in the Keyboard Mode field on the panel of the G-70, or by simply pressing the Guitar Mode button in the Easy Settings field of the new E-Series. This will transform the instruments into a Guitar with a Keyboard action. On the display you will now see 3 Zones on the keyboard. The left Zone is for playing the chords with your left hand. (Exactly like you have always done it) - In the middle Zone you will be able to play pickings with the 6 guitar strings by just playing on the keyboard. Please play any order of notes from C – A (the Octave underneath the Drawbars) and the G-70 will sort them out in accordance to the chord that you have played with your left hand. - In the right zone (one Octave higher from C – C - F) you will be able to play many different types of guitar strummings and articulations, again in accordance with the chords that you have played on the left side. Please try the different notes on the right side and have a listen to the musical result.
The combination we will study this month is including one 4 Note Strumming and Note Off Sounds. Also we will use the Electric Guitar this time. Please switch to Electric and adjust to 06-Strat Clean by using the Data Wheel.
Please press Options on the Touchscreen and switch on Doubling Mode. You will now hear two Electric Guitars playing the Groove.
Also this time we will put a strong emphasize on dynamics. Please play the notes with the accents and also play the Ghost Notes. The notes with the small Noteheads in brackets are Ghost Notes. Ghost Notes are played extremely softly, nearly without touching the keys.
Here’s the Audio reference for this great Groove:
Also, you can record this Guitar Groove in the 16-Track Sequencer or in the Style Composer. Please refer to Tips & Tricks Vol. 3 on this site. I hope you enjoy playing with the new Guitar Mode and the new possibilities in the E-80, E-60, E-50 and off course in our G-70. Yours Sincerely Ralf Schink, September 2006
